who presides over the depths of the ocean and ultimately became known as the wife and queen of Neptune,
god of the sea and water. You see there is sensational backstory, a Roman myth that led us to this moment in time,
a story that inspired the choice of our crew name, Krewe of Salacia Queen.
As it goes, god Neptune wanted to marry Salacia. She was in such awe of her distinguished suitor,
she chose to preserve her virginity, with grace and celerity and managed to glide out of his sight,
hiding from him in the depths of the ocean. Grieving Neptune sent a dolphin to look for her in
hopes of persuading the fair nymph to return and share his throne.
Alas, Salacia agreed to marry Neptune. Overjoyed, The king of the deep deemed to the dolphins
a place in the heavens, referred to as Delphinus, a constellation seen for eternity.
The personification of the CALM and SUNLIT, a real beauty of the sea.
SAL, in Salacia, derived from the Latin language meaning "salt,"
the name Salacia denotes the WIDE, OPEN SEA, and is often translated
to ultimately signify SENSATIONAL.
A true goddess of salt water, there is no better divinity than that of Salacia.
There is no better whisper of such depth in a myth to represent this krewe of wonderful ladies, of and in our community.
And, certainly no other goddess, to hold our Krewe of Salacia reign of carnival
then that of this year’s Inaugural Krewe of Salacia Queen..
